The Sustainable Catchment Management Programme is a United Utilities programme that helps fund our work.
The aim of catchment management is to protect and enhance the water environment through managing the surrounding land. United Utilities have a long history of doing just that on the 57,000 hectares of land they own around their reservoirs.
Their award winning sustainable catchment management programme (SCaMP) has been successful at demonstrating how by working together with organisations such as The Welsh Dee Trust they can manage catchments for water quality and other benefits such as an improved natural environment.
They are now expanding this approach to catchments where they abstract water, but don’t own the surrounding land with their work in safeguard zones.
